Allowing your customers to easily track an eBay order can help you stand out from the competition. It allows both you and your buyers to quickly check on the status of their packages. And it gives your customers an additional feeling of security. It can also decrease the numbers of questions from customers, as they will always be up-to-date on where their order is.
eBay partners with several popular couriers. This makes it much easier for you and your buyers to view an order’s tracking status directly within the My eBay section, without having to leave the site. You can find the full list of eBay’s partnering couriers here.
Keep Your Customers Informed
When you are using tracking and delivery confirmation numbers, eBay will show the courier’s own status updates, as well as the item’s delivery status as one of the following:
- In transit
and will include a link to the courier tracking site. When you upload tracking information and your item status is Accepted, eBay uses this information to verify that you posted the item on time.
How to Upload Tracking and Delivery Confirmation Numbers
So, how do you make sure your customers are informed about their orders’ status at all times?
If you are using a postage service that provides a tracking or delivery confirmation number, you will need to upload those numbers to My eBay. Follow these steps to do this manually:
- Go to the Sold section of My eBay.
- Tick the box next to the item(s) for which you want to add a tracking number and click Add tracking number.
- On the Add/Edit/Delete Tracking Number page, enter the tracking number.
- If eBay can determine the service you're using, they'll pre-fill that information in the Courier box. Make sure you choose the correct carrier as the buyer will then be provided with a direct link to the carrier's website. Otherwise, if it is not available in the list, enter the name of your postal service manually.
- Click the Submit button.
The process is faster when you are using eBay postage labels. The tracking number is then automatically added to My eBay when it is available.
After you've uploaded the tracking or delivery confirmation number, it will show up below the item title in the Sold section of My eBay and on the View Order Details page.
Your buyers will then receive an email from eBay with the tracking or delivery confirmation number. They can also find this information in the Won section of My eBay (their Purchase History), on the View Order Details page and on the Feedback page. A link will guide your buyers to the carrier website where they'll be able to find tracking or delivery confirmation information for the package.
